I know I’ve been a slacker butt and haven’t kept up with Selfie Art Day. I completely missed it last month but Yvette and Catherine played along without me.
I think I’m back in the art game for now. Even though Yvette may be the only person left playing along, I will celebrate Selfie Art Day today!
Here is Yvette’s post: https://yvettecarol.wordpress.com/2016/09/25/selfieart-day7/
and here’s my attempt. It’s more of an illustration of me and my mom than a true selfie. If you’ve played along, let me know and I’ll compile a list in a couple of days!
This is another repeat piece because I have a busy day of other things to do, including meeting with my in-real-life critique group, which is always fun! I think it’s perfect since after the viscacha, I realize I need a bit more zen in my life.
So a couple of brave souls joined me for #SelfieArt day…
Kerfe, who did another one of her fabulous “after Man Ray” pieces: https://methodtwomadness.wordpress.com/2016/06/25/self-portrait-15-one-more-for-man-ray/
Yvette, who is always good about giving us a play-by-play of her process:
I probably won’t be on the ball next month again, but I will try to give everyone a couple of days of advance warning. 🙂
If I’ve missed anyone’s selfie art, let me know and I will add you to the list.
I hadn’t received notification that anyone else participated in Selfie Art Day, so will present to you the very short list of intrepid souls who played along this month:
Susan – https://susanfeniakart.wordpress.com/2016/05/25/selfie-art-day-susan-abstracted/
Yvette – https://yvettecarol.wordpress.com/2016/05/26/selfieart-day-doodlewash-day/
Because May has been a lot busier than I expected, I completely forgotten about Selfie Art Day on the 25th. But Susan (susanfeniakart.wordpress.com) remembered and posted a piece of art for the occasion. She inspired Catherine and Yvette, and possibly others, to participate. To let me know your Selfie Art links so I can compile and post them in a couple of days, read on (or skip to the last paragraph).
Here’s mine below, a couple of days late, of me as a toddler. I meant to complete it in 10 minutes, but with all the interruptions I had, it took me closer to 20.
I’m still behind on everything and I have come to the realization that there isn’t enough time for everything. If I hope to complete the two novels (one middle grade, one young adult) I’ve been working on, in addition to my other writing–picture books and adult science fiction–and continue with making art, something has to give. So I’m going to have to cut back on commenting. Even though I will continue to read your blogs, I will not be commenting on every single one every day.
I’d turned off comments on this blog for the same reason. I’m a compulsive replier and that was taking up a lot of time, too. Catherine asked about that and I considered turning comments back on, but I may hold off for now. If you need to get a hold of me…such as for telling me your Selfie Art urls…just use the Contact Me form at my website (at teresarobeson.com). Thank you…for following my blog, for reading my ramblings…I really do appreciate you!
I’m re-using another oldie for the National Tell a Story Day, because 1) I kind of like this nearly-a-couple-of-decades old drawing, and 2) I don’t have time to do a drawing today. Wouldn’t you like to know what story that bird is telling?
I’m so pleased that 8 people joined me in #SelfieDay this month on WordPress! **Edited to add Myriam and Birgit’s entry. Several of you went with line drawings, one of my favorite ways to do a selfie:
Myriam…who painted beautiful birds and shared an old selfie drawing: https://myrsbytes.com/2016/04/27/two-days-late-dna-day-and-selfieart-day/
Annie did an illustrative self portrait:
Charlie, Carolina and Birgit captured themselves with color:
And for something quite different, Sharon and Kerfe gave us experimental and collage:
What fun it was to see everyone’s creative efforts! Go checked out these brave and talented artists’ selfies. And if I have forgotten to include yours, please let me know and I’ll update this list.
Well, where did Monday go? So much for the M-F posting schedule. Good thing nobody is keeping track.
Charlie (Mr. Doodlewash) and I were talking about pangolins, and I told him I had a prelim sketch of one in a piece of kidlit art, so here it is. Needs paint. 🙂
We had a small but dedicated group of #SelfieArters (is that a word?) this month.
Susan always puts herself in a fun place for her selfie-art; I always wonder what cool place she’ll be hailing from next: https://susanfeniakart.wordpress.com/2016/03/24/selfie-art-day/
Yvette bravely joined us for the first time and gave us terrific details on her process: https://yvettecarol.wordpress.com/2016/03/24/selfie-art-day-or-new-leaves/
Kerfe combines her 100 self-portraits projects with selfieart day. I love her homage to the different artists she riffs on: https://methodtwomadness.wordpress.com/2016/03/25/self-portrait-13-after-man-ray/
Catherine is like me; she does fast and pretty spontaneous art: http://www.catherinemjohnson.com/?p=10493
Thanks to you lovely folks for playing along!
Yeah, that’s me. Sort of. Stylized. But, it’s me. 🙂
I have been busy this month and didn’t remind people about #SelfieArtDay but will compile a list of everyone who played along!
I promised last week, when I posted about the adorable book plate I received from one of my favorite authors that I’d share a story about the-book-plate-that-never-was.
A handful of years ago, I was at a writer’s conference where I sat next to an author at lunch. We chit-chatted a little and then re-connected with each other on Twitter due to our whole table exchanging business cards and promising to keep in touch. We talked about her cute book and she asked me for my address so she could send me a signed bookplate. So, for the past 3 years, I sit (above) with the book waiting hopefully for the bookplate to arrive.
This segues to…
At that same lunch, while I was making small talk with the aforementioned author (it was after eating and most of the people from our table had drifted off), a man came up to the table. Without looking at me at all, he introduced himself to the author, told her he’d heard she used to be an editor with blah-blah-blah publisher and would like to chat with her. She and I glanced at each other, smiled our goodbyes, and he launched into his schpiel NEVER ONCE ACKNOWLEDGING ME OR THE FACT THAT HE INTERRUPTED MY CONVERSATION WITH HER. Granted, it wasn’t much of a conversation, but WOW! Entitled much, dude?
You can sure meet some weird people at conferences… 😀
After my rather uninspired attempt at a self-portrait for November’s #SelfieArt Day, I’m relieved to say that there will not be a #SelfieArt Day on Dec. 25th (because, you know…). We’ll resume in January if there is enough interest.
In fact, I might just take a blogging break for the entirety of December. It’ll be a crazy month due to the holidays, my sister visiting, and just the general seasonal blahs (this drawing is sort of a selfie; I feel as blah as she looks).
I promised my sweet friend (and human being extraordinaire) Charlie O’Shields (over at the awesome Doodlewash blog) that I’d answer some questions for the Liebster Award today, but that was before I remembered I had to post the #SelfieArt Day links. So, tomorrow, I’ll answer Charlie’s questions. I promise! 🙂
A big thanks to all the lovely folks who were game enough to tackle creating their own self-portraits this month! They’re presented alphabetical order; please check out their terrific self-portraits, interpreted in their own style! If I’ve forgotten someone, let me know. 🙂

Before we move on to the main topic, I want to mention that I finally did what a bunch of people asked. I sketched Alex Trebek to go with all my Jeopardy contestants drawings. It took about 20 minutes (because I was watching The Flash while sketching). I’ll add this to my website page dedicated to Jeopardy contestants.
We had a smaller, but very dedicated, group of #SelfieArt folks who participated this month! Since I was out of town on the day of, I may have missed someone’s entry. If so, please let me know and I will add you right away. Check out the clever and varied pieces of art this lovely bunch created, and maybe be inspired to join us next month!

I’m compiling links for #SelfieArt Day today and will post tomorrow!
In the meantime, I just want to say how much my younger son and I are enjoying the Thermodynamics class from The Great Courses. Not only does Professor Grossman say “Kelvin” without “degrees” in front of it (as it should be!) but he also uses equations! It’s, so far anyway, just basic calculus, but it helps to explain concepts much better than hand-waving (I’m looking at you, Alex Fillipenko!) or even experiments, and he gives lots of demos which is also great.
I drew a sketch of him about a week or so ago:
