About me

I’m a transplanted West-Coast Canadian who lives with a professor/scientist husband, quirky kids, and even quirkier chickens on a moderate-sized hobby farm in the Midwest, U.S.

Born in Hong Kong in 1964, I was lucky enough to view the first lunar landing and be raised on a healthy dose of Star Trek. This series of fortunate events turned me into a total nerd/geek-girl who loves to write and read science fiction, science, and modern fantasy. I also have a life-long love of children’s lit, having never really grown up.   5. You are living a parallel life to my own. We have similar dreams/ambitions, born about a decade apart. I am far from settled and grown up in some ways but not enough, perhaps. I too craved seeing the Parthenon/Acropolis but did not want to see it in shambles (ha). I missed out on a chance to see Delos and have much more exploring of Greece to do someday…as well as all of the Far East.

  6. Blogging is really great for bringing similar and like-minded folks together! I will assume I’m the older one. 🙂 I don’t mind seeing things in ruins if they’re as old as the Parthenon is. I can imagine it in all its former glory. It was still spectacular! I hope you’ll get to go traveling and exploring again soon.

  7. I wish I could say that, but I said the same about online chat rooms, and that only lasted so long. Connecting with “like-minds” is a bit like chasing planets with a telescope for me. I am awed one moment and then lose sight of the “heavenly body” with no hope of seeing him/her again.

    Yes, you are older, if that makes you feel better:P

    Yea, but I’d rather find the ruins as nature intended….not wrapped up in scaffolding by men who are adding fake pieces to replace the real ones. It’s kinda like meeting a dozen guys in Santa suits instead of the real guy. I don’t want to meet Texas Pope Francis; I want to meet the real pope…not really.

    I was definitely in awe and bowed like a soldier to Athena…and later in the garden? of Pompeii where there were shambles of a shrine to Diana and Apollo. People looked at me strangely, but I felt as if I was “back then.”

    Thanks for the kind comments and I so totally agree with your about your life dream to visit the Parthenon and the Acropolis. Sometimes, imagination is the best tool one can have at their disposal. Without it..you can’t go far!
