My pika character painted with Inktense blocks (sketched first with a Neocolor crayon). I was going to title this “If I see another &!@$ bear in a children’s book…” Hah!
LOL! Helen Oxenbury’s book is a classic. 🙂 Just scanning the book display at my local library showed 50% of the books had bears. Let’s give other animals a chance! 😉
Thanks, Sharon! It’s true; kids just have a thing for bears. LOL! There is this amazing new picture book called Finding Winnie…it’s about the bear that was the inspiration for Winnie the Pooh. If you can find it at your library, I recommend a read. It’s one of my favorite books!
LOL! Yeah, yaks…that’s an odd one. 😀 Penguins must be the second most popular children’s books animal. Well, maybe third after bears and dogs. They might be tied with cats! 😉
Oh he/she is so cute in colour! Great colours and shading and I like your medium grey lines. Thumbelina and the Three Pikas? Definitely curious about what adventures you are plotting for your little pika…
My three year old’s favourite book right now? We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.
Bears

This little guy has such a wonderful vulnerability. You can see it in all the sketches. A child would definitely identify. (K)

A pika would make a nice change from bears. Very cute illustration!

Bears will always be in kid lit, but I like when new critters pop up!
