For Day 2 of the art challenge that Claire and Sylvia tagged me to do, I have a #SelfieArt piece that I created using Neocolors. Remember them?
It is NOT easy to do a self portrait standing in front of a mirror holding a sketchbook in one hand and attempting to free-hand your face with the other with what are essentially glorified crayons. I don’t know why I do these things to myself.
Since there are not many hues to choose from, I had to make do with orange, yellow, and brown for my face. My mom had once said I was a banana, but I look more like a mango here.
I think this not-selfie (below) worked out slightly better since I kept it to black and white (using just the black crayon) and didn’t have to hold the sketchbook up vertically with one hand…I held it up horizontally with one hand over my laptop keyboard instead. I think I’m a closet masochist.
Anyway, here is the list of everyone who participated in #SelfieArt in February (in no particular order).

Please go check out their wonderful work if you haven’t already!
Wonderful Selfies, Teresa: I’m so impressed at your handling of those Caran d’Ache Neocolour things – they’ve defeated me for years but now I’m inspired anew! Thanks too for the link.

This is a fab selfie, Teresa! I’m impressed with what you were able to do with those. I think I’d struggle with the limited color options. 😊 But you did it beautifully! And thanks for all the links… it’s cool to see everyone’s in one spot!

I love both selfies, Teresa! Both show different aspects of you. And, to think you did them with Neocolors while looking into a mirror! You’re amazing!

You did that standing up, one-handed? Yes, definitely a masochist! Ha ha. No, seriously, that’s fab!

Teresa, these are beautiful! All the more awesome that you completed them under such awkward circumstances! Great to see the other submissions too. 🙂

I do a pencil drawing in the mirror and color it in at my drawing table. Although I have painted in front of the bathroom mirror…the sink holds the water and paint. But these look great! I love how multiple portraits show us in different ways. (K)

Great job! They are wonderful, especially considering the circumstances. I admire anyone who can do a realistic self-portrait. Way to go!

Thanks, but I think self portraits are really hard! I’ve choked every time I’ve tried (or I’m way uglier than I think lol)!

Aww, thanks, Yvette! I gave away my upright easel (but it was too big to lug around anyway). Need to get a portable one. 🙂

Thanks, Pat! It’s good practice to do paint oneself by looking in the mirror. 🙂 The bottom one is not me, though.

I expected the Neocolor to blend a little bit better and thought I’d diluted the orange enough so that I wasn’t so…um…fruity looking. 😀 Thanks, Charlie! ❤

Oh, phew! I worried that people might think I was masquerading as her. Not putting myself down or anything, but I look nothing like her; she was some special kind of stunning.

LOL! Thanks! I really love how you and others reinterpret the self-portait. I need to do something more interesting. But you know what? This well-known artist does many self-portraits from the same perspective…just different colors and brush strokes. Practice makes perfect, I guess. 🙂

If we were all to do the same thing life would be a little monotonous. If I was to do a selfie as in a phone photo my selfie paintings wouldn’t be what they are. I admire your ability to paint your own face. So far I have only tackled that once. LOL

I have a table one, but I need to set it on something to face my favorite mirror. 🙂

Amazing job of self portrait especially when you consider you did it not from a photo, but live. No offence but I don’t think you’ve done yourself justice in that picture though.

Great portraits :-). Both of you have such superb cheekbones! Though I don’t recommend tanning creams for you. It is a good super-hero look though – Tangerine Teresa!

Hahaha! I’m now concerned that the orange makes me look like John Boehner or Donald Trump. 😝

Luckily, your skin does not actually look like Trump’s and you have really nice hair (and cheekbones) 🙂 .
