Leaves of a different sort

This one is by request of Laura (Create Art Everyday).  There is a 30-day drawing leaves challenge going on and I mentioned that the kids and I used to make ceramic leaf plates, so she requested to see some. Here they are:

  1. Thanks, Laura! We made many more than these…some we sold or gave away before I could get a photo and the photos of others are not on this flash drive for some reason, so I have to go look for them. I had the kids take ceramic lessons when they were little and I took it with them sometimes…it’s when we made these. 🙂

  2. Love your leaf plates. They look so real! What a lovely gift. I like to surround myself with natural items.

I remember as a child taking crayons (gold, silver etc) and melting them and then dipping buckeyes on a twig and different leaves into the pot. We made decorations and added holly berries and other natural items for color.

  3. That sounds like a cool craft, Patricia! I’ll bet kids today still do this. 🙂 Thank you! These are easy; they’re just leaf imprints on clay…the fun part is choosing just the right leaves and finding the best paint colors for the final product you envision. 🙂

  4. The plates are fabulous! Perfect for decoration or serving little moon cakes on. It is things like this that make me want to build a kiln in the backyard ;D. Thank you so much for sharing such lovely work.
