Just to prove me wrong

The tomatoes overheard me saying that we’d likely only be able to can 3 batches of sauce this year and rallied themselves. I just spent 1.5 hours washing and straining these on the counter with Son2 (and I’ve collapsed on the couch while it’s simmering on the stove…meanwhile Son2 is out on the tractor mowing; what is it like to be 17 and full of energy again?)

  1. Thanks, Robin! This is basic sauce with no seasoning so it’s versatile (for cooking Indian or Italian or whatever). One year, we canned about 80 quarts of sauce. This year won’t be quite as many, which is both good and bad. :}

  2. Yay! Isn’t it great to have a stock of homegrown and home-canned foods, Shirley? You probably did all the canning by yourself, too, didn’t you? That is amazing. Ours is more of a family affair. I wash (tomatoes, jars/lids, the equipment, etc), the kids do the straining-processing, hubby does the cutting, cooking down and the actual canning.

  3. I live in Ohio, where there are two very large Amish communities. I don’t live close, but there are some Amish and many beautiful Amish furniture stores. Need to take a drive into the heart of the community in NE Ohio.
